Two Vezinas, a Conn Smyth, and a Stanley Cup. Thomas is going to need a bigger trophy shelf.
Too bad that everyone watching the NHL Awards Ceremony lost a piece of their soul while Thomas was winning awards!
Honestly, I want to say that Jay Mohr ruined it for me, but he didn’t. Don’t get me wrong, he wasn’t funny nor entertaining, but he wasn’t the worst part. Neither was the poor excuse for musical entertainment, which consisted of some country band (didn’t catch who it was, got up to get a beer at that point) and Far East Movement.
…Wait, who?
Care to guess what the worst part was? Chances are you already know and agree.
After the Jump: It was the worst of times…
I pose a question to the NHL. Who is the half-witted, inbred, waste of carbon that is responsible for allowing women from “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” to present the Lady Byng Trophy to “Martin St. Lewis”?? Not that many of the presenters had anything to do with the sport, but how much further away from hockey can you get?? I’m angry at the mere fact that I need to google where they are from for the sake of this post. Amidst all the scripted banter, Edmonton jokes, awful music, and lacking skits… that moment alone took away whatever credibility the NHL had.
The highlight of the night was Kesler’s face when Chara and Thomas walked out with the cup. It was, without a doubt, one of the most delicious sights of my life. Chara and Thomas had to run off the stage to catch Kesler’s tears in the Stanley Cup and drink them back stage.
If anyone has a screen cap of Kesler’s face, please send it to [email protected].
For anyone who may not have seen them yet, here are the awards of the night:
JAMES NORRIS TROPHY
• Nicklas Lidstrom
FRANK J. SELKE TROPHY
• Ryan Kesler
JACK ADAMS AWARD
• Dan Bylsma
CALDER TROPHY
• Jeff Skinner
TED LINDSAY AWARD
• Daniel Sedin
BILL MASTERTON TROPHY
• Ian Laperriere
LADY BYNG TROPHY
• Martin St. Louis
VEZINA TROPHY
• Tim Thomas
HART TROPHY
• Corey Perry
Too bad that Lidstrom ousted Chara for the Norris Trophy, but I think he’ll live.
