Even though the Bruins lost, there’s still a ray of sunshine beaming through the dark clouds. Today the NHL announced the nominees for the Norris Trophy. For those who don’t know what the Norris Trophy is: The James Norris Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to the National Hockey League’s top “defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position”
The nominees announced were Nashville’s Shea Weber, Ottawa’s Erik Karlsson and Boston’s Zdeno Chara.
A lot of people are saying Karlsson will win this year based on his point production alone (78 points in 81 games), but he SUCKS defensively. Now, I’m sure he’ll win because everyone likes offensive ability, but it’s a shame. For my money, Chara is still the best overall defenseman in the NHL. Guy can do everything from offense to defense, to playing point on the PP and killing penalties.
Ah well.
