Polian fingered safety Bob Sanders and wide receiver Pierre Garcon as the Colts’ fastest players and added that, “Donald (Brown) might sneak in there, and Joe (Addai) when he was younger; Joe could really run.”
Colts coach Jim Caldwell declined to hazard an opinion on the subject. He didn’t want to deal with the inevitable blowback from the players he didn’t name. Speed is a particular point of pride among NFL players, and they’re vocal about it.
“Right now it’s my mind that’s the fastest part of my game,” he said. “I’d say I’m second to (quarterback) Peyton Manning. I can make up with the quick mind for the quick feet.”
The only answer, concluded Powers, who desperately wants a piece of Garcon, is an offseason race. It won’t happen. The players have been talking about it for years, knowing full well that if one man is identified as fastest, the rest of them can’t be.
Remember: Speed is manhood, manhood is speed, and the answer is “Me.”
