If you saw last night’s game then you saw Mount Leyland erupt.
After Magglio Ordonez was punched out and questioned the call, umpire Paul Schreiber put his hand on Ordonez’s back and tried to “shoo” him back to the dugout like some lost puppy. That’s exactly when Jim Leyland stomped out his cigarette, took a deep breath, and sprinted out onto the field to exhale some serious smoke in the face of Schreiber for touching one of his players. Classic example of a great coach defending his players. I love it.
As a player you can’t touch an umpire and the same rules should apply for the umpires, especially in the midst of an argument. If the MLB takes any action on this, I expect to see a fine levied on Schreiber.
