Clete to put on the spikes for the Tigers again

It was announced after tonight’s 8-5 victory that Clete “If the shoe fits” Thomas will be recalled from Triple-A Toledo to replace Don Kelly for Wednesday’s game vs. the Royals.  Thomas, a lefty stick, was batting .357 in his past 21 games for the Mud Hens.  He hit .237 with four HRs and 17 RBIs for Detroit earlier this season.

Jim Leyland described the move as trying to “catch lightning in a bottle,” which to me screams the Tigers are doing whatever it takes to maximize their offensive output, particularly from the left side of the plate.  I’ll be shocked if the Tigers do not make a move before the trading deadline to shore up their needs and wishes.  Playing shuffle is not going to work throughout the season, so I think a more permanent move is inevitable.

For the time being, Clete Thomas will probably suffice, especially since he’s certainly a crowd favorite with the cougars (even though these chicks look more like drunken college girlies that didn’t make the cut for “Girls Gone Wild”):
