Home Run Derby: Brandon Inge Gets a Complimentary Gatorade

bagel

The 10 outs went by pretty quickly for Brandon Inge.  He hit a few line drives, a few pop ups, a ground ball, and a missile just foul to end his round.  In the end, Brandon Inge wound up with a gatorade and a towel in his hand, and nothing else to show for it.  The last guy to hit zero homers in the derby was Jason Bay in 2005 when he hit about 7 line drives down the third base line at Comerica Park, interestingly enough, the home of the Detroit Tigers.

On the brightside, the derby means absolutely nothing.  He still resides in the Top 11 in all of baseball in home runs this season and he is a starting 3B for a first place team.  It’s merely fifteen embarrassing minutes and maybe a few wise cracks after the fact, but really meaningless.

Another positive thing to take from tonight (other than the free gatorade), is that Inge probably hit higher than his season average in tonight’s derby (those kids can’t field very well), and, maybe, he’ll score an interview with Erin Andrews.  If that happens, then most people would probably be satisfied.  Personally, I think Inge is just saving it all up for what matters most: helping the Tigers win the division and ultimately, the World Series.
