It’s a Walk Off: Thank You Marco Scutaro

Toronto led 5-2 heading into the bottom of the 9th in what looked to be a disappointing loss for the Tigers.  However, Marco Scutaro booted Granderson’s ground ball to start the inning and, of course, all comeback rallies begin with an error or a walk.

Sure enough, Detroit followed the error up with a pair of hits from pinch hitters, including Aubrey Huff’s 3-run pimp jobbed blast to tie the game. (Huff is lucky he is not facing the Blue Jays again this season because he would certainly get plunked for his bat flip).

In the bottom of the 10th inning, Detroit put two on courtesy of walks for Alex Avila.  On the first pitch, he hit a hard grounder to first, a sure double play ball, but Scutaro completely whiffed on catching the relay from Lyle Overbay.  As the ball went about 30 feet toward third base, Brandon Inge was hustling the whole way and able to score the game winning run.  The old baseball saying is true tonight, boots do come in pairs.

Enter Billy Zane:

Minnesota trails the Indians 3-0 in the 8th inning, so Detroit could gain a game tonight with this great comeback victory.  It continues to feel like 2006 with these big, late inning hits.  Go Tigers!

UPDATE: I forgot that the Indians are awful and are prone to allowing the late innings comeback.  The Twins are now up 6-3.  What a freaking joke game from the Indians.  I’ll forgive them if I have to come back here and do another update saying they came back and won, but I’m leaving this with the assumption they’ve choked on Mauer’s balls and lost.  Tigers to remain 5.5 up in the Central.
