Randy Marsh Blew It Big Time

Like Leyland and Inge stressed after the game, I don’t want this to sound like sour grapes. It isn’t.  I still think the better team won last night.

However, things could have been totally different in that last inning had homeplate umpire, Randy Marsh, made the right call while Brandon Inge was hitting.

With the bases loaded and one out, Inge’s jersey was grazed by a pitch, but Marsh claimed that it didn’t.  Inge pleaded his case and Leyland came out to have Marsh get some help, but Marsh did not back down.

I understand that umpires miss calls (and Marsh also missed one earlier in the game on Polanco), but you hate to see missed calls in critical moments that could so clearly affect the outcome of the game.

Shit happens sometimes, but what really upsets me, more than the fact he missed the call itself, is that he’s being stubborn and not admitting that he made the wrong call.

“I did not have the ball hitting him,” Marsh told a pool report.  “we looked at replays, too.  And the replays that we’ve looked at, to be honest with you, were inconclusive.  I did not see a replay that showed that it hit him.”

Mr. Marsh, did he not see this replay?  Or the following pic (from Big League Stew)?

Fess up and admit you made the wrong call, Randy.  And then I want an apology.

(better quality here)
