Despite nothing good happening in the sports world last night (except Denver covering the spread, don’t gamble at home kids), we’re in a celebratory mood here at D4L. Here’s your daily set of links to get you through the rest of your day.
- Although the free week of NBA League Pass is over, Ball Don’t Lie, The Baseline, FreeDarko, and SLAM Online are all giving away a free year-long subscription to League Pass Broadband. Keep in mind that only 3 of the 4 are available, because I’m going to win one of them.
- The Big Lead is dreaming of organizing the NFL’s Fastest Man competition at the Pro Bowl this year. After looking over their list of competitors, I was surprised to see that Michael Bennett is still playing football. And if they’re running 100 meters, I’d like to see either Randy Moss or Terrell Owens in that competition. With their height (and long stride), I think they would make it close at the end. Getcha popcorn ready.
- Continuing their secret desire to take over the entire sports world, The Big Lead has some nice ideas for adding excitement to the MLB playoffs. My ideas? Take away all the sponsorship money and slo-mo replays of umpires blowing calls. Keep the games to 3-hour affairs. And don’t let Joe Girardi use more relievers than Jim Leylandsmokes Marlboros.
- My coworkers probably think I’m insane now, because I could not stop laughing during this skit on The Basketball Jones today. Skeets & Tas also discuss the Pistons’ trade rumors involving Tayshaun Prince during the episode.
- At Bless You Boys, this week’s poll wants to know if you think the field at Comerica Park (NOT Comerica Park itself) should be named after Ernie Harwell. I’m for it. Head over to BYB to voice your vote.
- Big thanks to The Basketball Jones for pointing this out in their show today: apparently Stewie Griffin now plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves. (The picture isn’t the greatest, but Google Oleksiy Pecherov and tell me I’m wrong).
- For those worried about tonight’s Red Wings game against the San Jose Sharks: don’t. Animal Drew’s got us covered. Make sure you check out his game preview as well.
Rob’s Highlight of the Day
Once again, I’m going slightly retro with my daily highlight, but this hit is nasty. [via Major League Jerk]
