- Once again, we had a weekend full of duds in the NFL, save for the late game on Sunday. This week, the New York Jets held on for a 17-14 win over the San Diego Chargers, guaranteeing that the AFC will be represented by a rookie coach at the Super Bowl in three weeks. Chargers kicker Nate Kaeding missed three field goals, causing him to give the sad puppy face to the whole country.
- The Minnesota Vikings brought the heat on Cowboys QB Tony Romo, keeping the Boys out of the end zone in a 34-3 win. The Vikings put it away late on a controversial TD that some of the Cowboys called “classless.” SB Nation’s Daily Norseman is proud of the fact that the rest of America hates their Vikings after today’s smackdown. In the other two games, Indy shut down Ray Rice and the Ravens and the Saints dominated the Cardinals.
- Unfortunately, the saddest news out of the NFL was much worse than just losing a football game. Chicago Bears DE Gaines Adams passed away yesterday due to cardiac arrest. The autopsy revealed that Adams had an enlarged heart, which possibly caused the cardiac arrest. Adams was originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, leading Buc ‘Em to create a tribute video to Adams. Check it out below.
- This may be the first time I’ve recommended a post based on the comments alone, but some morons on Babcock’s Death Stare had the balls to suggest that the Red Wings should trade Nicklas Lidstrom. Kyle Kujawa, BDS’s main contributor and author of the post, calls the idea “moronic” so be sure to not direct your hate mail to him. Don’t be fooled: there’s more likelihood of the sun not rising tomorrow than the Wings trading The Perfect Human.
- Frankie Piliere of MLB Fanhouse thinks that with the addition of RP Jose Valverde, the Tigers’ bullpen becomes one of the strongest in the majors. He views Valverde as the veteran lynchpin that will solidify the rest of the young, talented arms that the Tigers will utilize this year. [via Bless You Boys]
- Wezen-ball.com is taking a look at Charlie Brown’s pitching career (yes, this Charlie Brown) and somehow calculating his wins and losses, among other stats. It’s a great idea and has gotten some love from BallHype and other sites. It’s broken down by decade: the ’50s are here and the ’60s are here. Be on the lookout for more recent decades soon. - For those interested in Michigan basketball and recruiting, UM Hoops is the site to check out. I was interested in this post about Grand Ledge, MI senior Jon Horford. I went to high school just down the road from Grand Ledge and watched Jon’s older brother Al, who you may now know as a forward for the Atlanta Hawks. Apparently Jon has been tearing it up just like his older brother and is on the radar of both Michigan and Michigan State, among other schools.
