Wednesday Links UPDATED – Kentucky Loses First Game, MSU Survives vs. Michigan, Tim Tebow’s Rough First Day, & The Pistons’ Chances at Getting John Wall

Busy day today, so once again the links will be cut a bit short. I’m hoping to get more than just links up later on this week. That could all change if Miranda Kerr finds some time in her busy schedule to hang with yours truly. [via Sharapova’s Thigh]

  • Edit: I did the links earlier than usual last night and didn’t get around to seeing this until about 12 hours later. Kentucky’s undefeated season is no more. I didn’t see Kentucky going undefeated this year, so this isn’t much of a surprise to me. They’re a very young team, and I doubt they’ll even reach the Final Four regardless of where they’re seeded.
  • The Sparties won the battle of Michigan in a rowdy Crisler Arena last night, even though DeShawn Sims practically had his fucking arm ripped off on that final play. Call me a sore loser, but I wasn’t too impressed with MSU despite the fact that they’re still undefeated halfway through the Big Ten schedule. Unless Tom Izzo pulls one of his patented March turnarounds, the Big Ten could have a hard time getting a team past the Sweet Sixteen this year.
  • From all accounts, Tim Tebow had a rough first day at practice for the Senior Bowl, the first stop on Tebow’s long road to proving to NFL scouts that he can play quarterback in the NFL. I’m not on the Tebow = Jesus bandwagon whatsoever, but I have to defend the guy on this one. These are the same scouts (I’m looking at you, Todd McShay) that were in love with JaMarcus Russell a few years ago when he came out of LSU. To borrow the words of one Allen Iverson: “We talkin’ ’bout practice.” Lighten up,everybody.
  • With our teams struggling more than we’re used to here in the D (yeah, even the Lions), thoughts have gotten a bit pessimistic. Still, we tend to look on the bright side of things when we can. MLive’s Patrick Hayes takes a look at the Pistons’ chances at nabbing Kentucky freshman phenom John Wall, likely the #1 pick in next year’s NBA draft. I don’t like the idea of tanking (especially in the karma nightmare that is the draft lottery), but I love the idea of the ping pong balls falling in our favor later this year.

  • Detroit Lions Weblog has a nice story about Lions offensive tackle Gosder Cherilus and his efforts to help the individuals affected by the recent tragedy in Haiti. As critical as we are of these athletes, it’s nice to see them making a difference beyond the field or arena.
