Coach Babcock’s Press Conference – A Beatdown in San Jose

Lidstrom: Yeah, we skated hard and the puck just bounced our way tonight. San Jose is a great team, with the best record in the league and we’re just happy to get 2 points in their building. It looks like Coach Babcock is coming, so he’ll take your questions now.

Mike Babcock

Ansar Khan: Coach, the team started off a bit slow tonight before picking it up late in the first period, what did you say to the guys to get them going after Thornton’s second goal?

Mike Babcock

Helene St. James: Coach, Jimmy Howard had another strong game tonight, especially in the last two periods. Do you think he can keep up this incredible pace for the rest of the year?

Mike Babcock

Chris McCosky: Coach, Patrick Eaves took a nasty spill late in the game on a breakaway and hit the boards pretty hard. Is he ok, or is this yet another injury you guys will have to overcome?

[Doors fly open, a very drunk Larry Murphy stumbles in]

Larry Murphy

Murph: Heeeeyyyy coach! Murph here. Couple o’ questions for ya…. Hold on. Gotta put on my readin’ goggles.

Larry Murphy

Murph: There we go. Anywho, Pavel looked really good tonight. Were his balls on fire in the third period or what? Did you start playing Ben Gordon’s Dr. Rahmani commercials on repeat in the locker room or something? He looked more excited than Mick did after I gave him a wooden hockey stick for his birthday.

Mike Babcock

Murph: And that Darren Helm, man is he fast! I haven’t seen anyone move like that since I had to hit the john on Dollar Hot Dog Night at the Joe. Do you keep him in a cage or something on the bench? Or tie his balls up like those rodeo bulls? Why is he so fast?

Mike Babcock

Murph: And did Derek Meech score tonight? I’m pretty sure it was him, but I was trying to find that last pint of Johnny Walker I hid in the booth when it happened. Then I nearly dropped the shit when they announced his name. Did you guys make him switch uniforms or something?

Mike Babcock

Murph: Right. Got it. Thanks Coach! I gotta go hit the bar with Drapes and Mick before last call, see ya tomorrow.

Khan: Coach, just a couple more questions. The power play looked really good tonight, scoring 2 goals on 6 chances. Did you guys change anything in practice? Or is this just due to Holmstrom coming back and creating havoc in front of the net?

Mike Babcock

Khan: Last question, Coach. You guys are 3-0-0 against San Jose this season. Do you feel like you guys have an edge against them? Are you hoping to see them in the first round of the playoffs?

Mike Babcock
