Shaun White made birds jealous last night. Video of his gold medal “victory lap” is below. Somehow the IOC hasn’t caught this one yet.
- We didn’t see the sort of fireworks we expected before
yesterday’stoday’s NBA trade deadline, but the Cleveland Cavaliers made the most of their opportunities. The Cavs sent Zydrunas Ilgauskas and a first round pick to the Washington Wizards for Antawn Jamison. So far, everyone is praising Cavs GM Danny Ferry for making out like a bandit, but I’ve learned to take a “wait-and-see” approach to things in the NBA that just seem too good to be true.
SI swimsuit modelU.S. skiier Lindsey Vonn won the gold medal in the women’s downhill yesterday afternoon, even if NBC tried to pretend that it happened at about 8:30 pm. Vonn won mainly due to the fact that she didn’t horrifically crash like several of her competitors. Another pleasant-looking American, Julia Mancuso, took home the silver. Fun fact: her dad is a convicted drug dealer. [h/t @mpetrella]
- Big news out of Auburn Hills: Pistons president Tom Wilson has resigned. Wilson is largely responsible for building the Pistons and Palace Entertainment into the successful organizations they are today. Detroit Bad Boys ponders whether there’s a motive behind this sudden move, while Piston Powered has commissioner David Stern’s take.
- Big League Stew has pictures from one of the happiest days of the year: the beginning of baseball’s spring training.
- Every Day Should Be Saturday out-did their already ridiculous standards on this one. According to reports, Big Ten commish Jim Delaney has offered the not-so coveted 12th spot in the Big Ten to Brazil. Yeah, this Brazil. Will it happen? I’m not sure, I was hoping for Australia, personally. [via another great post by Maize ‘n’ Brew]
- Former Michigan QB Ryan Mallett broke his foot in off-season drills and will miss most of the team’s spring practice. Having personally met/hung out with Mallett during his short stay in Ann Arbor, I can confidently say that the dude is a complete douchebag. I’m not celebrating his injury (because that would be wrong); maybe I just believe in karma.
- Shutdown Corner takes a look at the top 5 receivers in this year’s draft class before the NFL combine next week. In other words, go read about the Oakland Raiders’ next first round pick.
