Busy, busy day yesterday in the sporting world, which means a lot of links for you to enjoy.
- Though I originally said the NBA trade deadline was on Wednesday, it was actually yesterday at 3 pm and it didn’t disappoint. The biggest trade of the day sends Tracy McGrady to New York, Kevin Martin to Houston, and Carl Landry to Sacramento. At first glance, Houston is the easy winner, but that could change after this summer. Posting and Toasting and Knickerblogger have all the details on New York’s very busy day, which included Nate Robinson going north to Boston for spare parts.
- Speaking of busy teams, the Chicago Bulls were also hard at work clearing out cap space for this summer, sending Tyrus Thomas to Charlotte and John Salmons to Milwaukee. Thomas was on the radar of some Detroit fans, but I thought he was still a bit too raw to go after, basically a Jason Maxiell without range. Sending Salmons to Milwaukee is questionable as well, seeing that the Bucks are both in the division and fighting for a playoff spot with Chicago.
- This is probably the first figure skating link to ever hit D4L, but American Evan Lysacek maintained the U.S.’s gold standard by narrowly beating defending Olympic champ Evgeni Plushenko last night. Lysacek basically had to be perfect in order to upset Plushenko, and was. Don’t ask me what the scores mean, I just know that hearing the Star Spangled Banner at the end of the night means more gold for us.
- Tiger Woods’
state of the union addresspress conference is later today, which you’ll be able to watch on NBC, CBS, or ABC. Ernie Els is calling Tiger’s coming-out party a “distraction,” when in reality no one besides Els’ mother knew there was even a golf tournament this weekend. Wake me up when Tiger picks up a club.
- Bless You Boys wants to know what your predictions are for the 2010 season. The list of questions is pretty lengthy, so it’ll kill a good half hour (at least) of your work day. You know you weren’t going to get anything done today anyway.
- New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Greg Williams had no problems running his mouth during the playoffs this year. The Saints are already slated to host the opening game of the 2010 season, and the Vikings have some talking of their own to do if they’re on the other side of the field. It’s one thing for a coach to say things, but it’s another entirely to listen to Ray Edwards (who’s a punk, by the way) and Visanthe Shiancoe vow for retaliation.
- If you’re not excited for baseball season yet, read this from ESPN’s Jayson Stark. I promise you that April can’t come soon enough after you’re done. [via Thunder Treats]
- Rob Discher from The Production Line is spending the next two weeks in Vegas with Darren Helm and Brett Lebda (not really), and has a running diary of each day’s events. Something tells me Lebda is going to screw this up too.
Rob’s Highlight of the Day
The Nets didn’t “net” their 6th win of the year on Wednesday night (though a questionable call late in the game hurt them badly), but Devin Harris and Brook Lopez hooked up for a nice alley-oop in the first quarter.
