- LaDanian Tomlinson was cut by the Chargers yesterday after dominating fantasy football for years. The Chargers were perennial playoff busts, but LT will still be remembered as one of the greats. One of my favorite LT moments? His Sportscenter commercial.
- Canada isn’t taking their most-recent reminder of which country runs shit around here too well. Though MSU fans may laugh off the lack of burning couches, the media is all over their team for losing a fairly meaningless game. It probably doesn’t help when we rub it in to our funny-talking neighbors. Hell, even Steve Nash is upset. And you don’t piss off Steve Nash.
- Lee Panas of Tiger Tales has just announced that he is releasing his first book, titled Beyond Batting Average. According to Lee’s interview at Bless You Boys, the book is essentially a beginner’s guide to the various sabermetric stats that are popping up more and more throughout the baseball blogosphere. The uber-talented Samara Pearlstein of Roar of the Tigers provided the cover art and illustrations within the book. If you’re interested, you can buy the book here. I’ll probably pick up a copy, if nothing else but to understand what a WAR is.
- Apparently some people can’t get enough of Michael Vick, even after his legal trouble. Playgirl has offered Vick $1 million to pose for their magazine. I think Vick should pass on the offer. Greg Oden has set a serious precedent, and I’d hate to see Vick’s reputation tarnished even further. From the “please say yes” column, Blake Lively wants $2.5 million to pose for Playboy. - For those of you following the draft status of CMU’s Dan LeFevour, this weekend’s NFL combine may not be too exciting. LeFreakinAwesome will wait until his pro day to throw for scouts. In related news, 29 NFL teams are now scrambling to figure out where the hell Mount Pleasant, MI is.
- Once again, Matthew Stafford is seen with some “gifted” women. Stafford spent Super Bowl weekend hanging out with a bunch of Hooters girls and some other dudes. My question: why the hell was Jon Gruden there? [via Sharapova’s Thigh]
- Once again, I am convinced that NBA commissioner David Stern and the league’s higher-ups read Detroit4lyfe. The NBA is meeting with TNT to figure out a way to revitalize the dunk contest. Not sure why they’re going this route, I’m pretty sure Stern could Google “make the dunk contest better” and find thousands of ideas.
Rob’s Highlight of the Day
Rod Rucker of Elbert County, GA shatters the backboard on a breakaway dunk. The video sucks, but how often does this happen? [via Buster Sports & Sharapova’s Thigh]
