Mark McGwire stated in a press conference Thursday that he no longer plans to speak to his youngest brother Jay. The newly minted batting coach of the Cardinals, is apparently disgusted that someone would tell the truth about his use of PED’s in order to sell books. If this is so traumatizing for McGwire, St. Louis would be wise to hire a traveling psychologist.
I hate to say it Mark, but I’m not sure you’ll be getting many sympathy cards in the near future.
The fact is, McGwire has lied to the fans, his teammates and a congressional committee. For years he’s been absent of the spotlight, as accusations and allegations had all but incriminated him. Mark’s apology and admission in January of this year seemed plastic and choreographed at best.
I’ve gotta hand it to his PR people, the timing was impeccable. Letting him clear the air at the beginning of the year, should help to alleviate a press frenzy when players begin to report to spring training next week.
As the season progresses, the hype around McGwire will again die down. Until then, he might wanna pack some extra tissues for road trips.
