Awesome day ahead. Chillin’ with Wale later on tonight. Links below.
- As expected, Manny Harris announced that he is leaving Michigan after his junior season and will test the waters of the NBA draft. Manny Fresh is projected as a late second round pick (if drafted at all), so he will need to really impress some people in pre-draft camp to see a jump in his stock. Hopefully we’ll hear his name called on draft night, but don’t be surprised if Harris ends up across the pond next year.
- The AP announced its All-American team yesterday, and once again its freshman-dominated. Both John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins of Kentucky made the first team, along with OSU’s Evan Turner, Syracuse’s Wes Johnson, and Villanova’s Scottie Reynolds. I’m surprised Reynolds made the first team over Duke’s Jon Scheyer or Maryland’s Greivis Vasquez, both second-teamers.
- Good news for Pistons fans: Kansas’ Cole Aldrich has also decided to skip his senior season to enter the NBA draft. Many fans, myself included, believe Aldrich is a great fit for the Pistons, who are in desperate need of a 7-footer to compete with the top teams in the Eastern conference.
- It’s amazing that it took so long, but apparently it’s all aboard the Jimmy Howard bandwagon now. The NHL named him its second star of the week after Tiberius gave up just 5 goals in 4 games, all wins for the Wings. Their recent 5-game winning streak has also vaulted them up to #7 in the ESPN Power Rankings. Make sure not to miss the team at #8.
- Today’s latest in hot girls: Unathletic has some great pictures of the Texas Tech cheerleaders (seriously, where are these girls in Michigan?) and Thunder Treats has their Fantasy Four results calculated. My earlier pick was knocked out, and I’m pretty shocked that Catherine Zeta-Jones was KO’d too.
- If you enjoyed the Gus Johnson soundboard, you’ll love Deadspin’s compilation of the best of Johnson this past weekend.
- This offseason hasn’t been the kindest to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Santonio Holmes, famous for bailing out his scrambling QB in the Super Bowl, apparently decided to bail out Roethlisberger again. Holmes’ response is predictable, but the fact that she’s only looking for $15,000 should set off some red flags on her end.
- For every great writer ESPN has on staff, there are probably three idiots, if not more. Colin Cowherd is one of those idiots. Video proof, in which Cowherd calls Kevin Durant “overrated,” is below. And people wonder why nobody likes the show SportsNation. [via NESW Sports]
