Weekend Bloguin Links – Shaun Rogers Arrested, Tigers Minor League Surprises, Cougar Madness Finals, & A New NHL Rule

It’s been a weird week for me, but hopefully I’ll be able to get everything back on track this weekend. I’ll be at the D4L annex (a.k.a. my parents’ house) for Easter celebrations, but regardless of your religious preferences make sure you check out some of the best stuff I’ve seen this week from the best blog network on the web.

  • First, some big news on yet another bonehead athlete no longer employed in Detroit: Shaun Rogers was arrested after trying to go through airport security with a loaded handgun. Take it away, Big Al. (And for the record, the IQ test is an awesome idea).
  • Our Detroit brethren at Nightmare on Helm Street are at it again. This week, Chris rewards three well-deserving writers for their excellent work with the esteemed NOHS Blogging Awards. Though there were several other deserving writers, these three stood above the rest for their outstanding efforts.
  • Though the Detroit Tigers roster is already set, some of their minor leaguers are still finding out where they’re going to be playing this season. Take 75 North has already uncovered a few surprises, including one guy that’s already seen some time in the bigs.
  • Pittsburgh Sports and Mini Ponies is yet another quality site on this great network, even though I still haven’t figured out the mini pony obsession yet. Regardless, check out their awesome screen-grab from a Bill Guerin fight on Thursday. Sidney Crosby is still unsure how that kid stole his favorite pajamas.

  • Thunder Treats’ Cougar Madness has their final two contestants: Elizabeth Hurley will take on Kristin Chenoweth for the Cougar Madness title. Hurley has been somewhat of a dark-horse contender, coming from a (underrated) #4 seed all the way to the title game. For even more entertainment, check out the doucher losing his shit over this contest in the comments.

  • Real Fake Sports has a great take on the New Jersey Nets’ 10th win of the season, guaranteeing that they will not make it into the record books as the worst team in NBA history. If anything, they should be angry that they won. More losses = more chances at John Wall, my friends.
  • Thankfully, not everyone in the NHL’s Eastern conference is oblivious to the vast disparity in talent compared to the West. Islanders Hockey Blog suggests a new rule that would reward a team who was nudged out of a playoff spot if the other conference is significantly weaker. Long story short: the Calgary Flames would be the 8th seed in the East with this rule. I like it.
  • With Malice tackles the NCAA’s latest dumb decision, arguing that the idea to move the decision date for the NBA draft forward by one month will only hurt kids who are on the fence about leaving school. I agree with the fact that it will only cause more problems, especially when millions of dollars are on the line.
