The D-Train, Dontrelle Willis, is Back…

tigersfinal

…well, not really.  But he had a solid outing on Thursday afternoon to help the Tigers take two out of three against the Royals in Kansas City.

After getting off to a rocky start (two walks and a run in the opening frame), he settled down to throw six innings in all, while giving up seven hits, two earned, no additional walks, and four strikeouts.  He also induced three double plays.  Unfortunately, the Tigers’ bats couldn’t help give him a deserved win.

The start wasn’t phenom. and it won’t garner him any All-Star or Cy Young votes, but for a fifth starter in the rotation, this outing was more than adequate.  However, it’s just one start and he showed last year he’s capable of putting it on for a start or two.  Let’s just wait and see if he can string some quality starts together and perhaps against slightly better competition.

MIGUEL MVP:

Miguel Cabrera hit the game winning home run on Thursday, had four hits total, and drove in four runs, all while only seeing 13 pitches in his five at bats.  In the series, he hit .571 with a .600 slugging, drove in seven runs, and hit two home runs.  Not to mention, he flashed some mighty fine leather on defense.  He won’t hit .500+ for the season, but man he’s a special player who is going to have a monster year if he stays focused.  MVP is definitely not out of the question.

AROUND THE CENTRAL:

The first place Twins slaughtered the Angels, 10-1.  Jim Thome hit a three run homer, his first with his new team.

The Indians took two of three against the White Sox.  I watched this game and it was awesome hearing Hawk Harrelson in agony.  JJ Putz got rocked and Chris Perez has some great hair flow.
