Things are starting to get pretty hectic around here at D4L headquarters with finals approaching. I’ll be doing the heavy lifting this week, including my NHL playoffs preview either today or tomorrow. I just hope I don’t get sick. Ask Chan Ho Park, it’s not fun at all.
- It wasn’t the story sportswriters were hoping for, but it was the best story of the weekend: Phil Mickelson won the Masters by 3 strokes over Lee Westwood, and celebrated with his wife Amy, who was diagnosed with breast cancer 11 months ago. Mickelson hit what arguably was the shot of his career on the 13th hole yesterday to help clinch the victory. As happy as I am to see Mickelson win this tournament after such a tumultuous year, I’m not excited for the mainstream media to beat the story to death this week.
- Tiger Woods played some golf this week too, finishing 5 shots behind Mickelson in 4th place. Even though he thinks he sucks, shooting 13 under par for the tournament is pretty amazing. ESPN’s Gene Wojciechowski tried to imagine what Tiger was thinking this week. It’s pretty funny that Tiger shot a 69 in the final round.
- Apparently Lions GM Martin Mayhew isn’t the only person gouging the rest of the NFL for all they’re worth this offseason. The New York Jets traded a 5th round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers for WR Santonio Holmes. I think you can do the math here to figure out which fanbase feels like their team got hosed.
- It’s not as awesome as my preview will be (honestly, what is?), but it will definitely hold you over. VooX previews the first round matchups in the Western Conference over at A2Y. As always, the banter in the comments is top notch. Just tread lightly if you’re not in agreement with the 19 and their mission.
- Guyism has some awesome career advice for Erin Andrews after she’s done with Dancing With the Stars. I’m pushing for options 2 and 3. And yes, this is just an excuse to post yet another picture of EA, but my girlfriend will be much less upset if I mention that Erin was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha at the University of Florida. Crisis averted.
- I didn’t get a chance to put together a Bloguin links post last weekend, but check out this post from Total Titans about beastly DT Albert Haynesworth possibly reuniting with the Tennessee Titans. Personally, I’d like to see Haynesworth take a massive pay cut and reunite with his former defensive coordinator. Serenade him if you have to Jim, just make it happen.
Check out today’s highlight and a new feature after the jump…
RANDOM AWESOME VIDEO OF THE DAY
I usually post something like this everyday, so I figured I’d just make a feature out of it. If you have any submissions (SFW only), e-mail it to us. Anyway, today’s awesome video is an acappella group from the University of Oregon rick rolling a New York City subway. I’m surprised some Italian guy with a Long Island accent didn’t yell at them to shut up.
ROB’S HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY
Shorthanded goals are a pretty rare feat in hockey. The Chicago Blackhawks were the only NHL team to crack double digits in shorties all season long. On Saturday, the Boston Bruins scored three in one Carolina Hurricanes power play, setting an NHL record. This video is the definition of “epic fail” if you’re a Carolina fan. The best part? After the third goal, the announcer finally says “Carolina might want to take a timeout to calm down a bit.” [via Deadspin]
