The Detroit Lions football family lost one of their own on Saturday, when defensive line coach Bob Karmelowicz passed away as a result of an illness. Karmelowicz, who most recently served as the Detroit’s d-line coach last season, spent 35 years in the NFL as a coach.
Lions President Tom Lewand released this statement on the Lions official website:
“Bob touched many lives throughout his years of coaching and positively impacted the careers of countless players at both the collegiate and professional level. While he was only with the Lions for one season, his contributions to our team last year were greatly appreciated and he will be missed by all of us.”
Karmelowicz, who was 60 years old at the time of his passing, also spent time coaching in Houston, Kansas City, Washington and Cincinnati. He’ll be greatly missed by the Lions and their staff, players and fans.
