I’ve officially returned from my self imposed writing vacation. Between working overtime, training a new guy at work, celebrating my birthday and mourning the Cavaliers early departure, I’ve been on a bit of a writing hiatus. Never fear though, as I have once again rounded up the NFL’s most recent happenings, and organized them for your reading pleasure. Enjoy.
- Former Lions receiver Roy Williams has apparently been spending a bit too much time in the Texas sun. Williams recently compared his connection with Tony Romo, to that of Joe Montana and Jerry Rice. He may be able to fool a diehard Cowboys fan with such talk, but we Lions fans still remember Williams as the receiver who never quite lived up to his own self-imposed hype. I’ve yet to decide whether comparing Roy to Rice, or Romo to Montana, is the bigger joke here. In the linked article, the receiver also vows not to lead the league in drops this season. With Braylon and T.O. still officially NFL players, I’ll say he’s got a decent chance of at least living up to that statement. As this picture depicts, he can find the ball in the air, it’s just the catching part he’s yet to master.
- Speaking of Terrell Owens, it appears some teams finally might be interested in the veteran wideout. According to reports, the Seattle Seahawks are considering speaking with Owens. Seattle’s offense last season was a bit paltry, but with many offensive additions this offseason, along with the hiring of offensive minded head coach Pete Carroll, Seattle might be a good fit. Besides potentially being good news for my fantasy team, it’s nice to finally see a team show a little interest in Owens. He had his worst season in years last year, but when Losman, Edwards and Fitzpatrick are the guys responsible for getting you the ball, you can’t really expect much. That sounds like the name of a law firm I’d never want to use.
- Linebacker Zach Thomas, of the Miami Dolphins, will re-sign with the team today, and then promptly announce his retirement at a press conference just hours later. Thomas played all twelve seasons of his career in Miami, where he was known for producing big hits despite his undersized frame.
- It appears that former Lion quarterback Daunte Culpepper, will be a Mountain Lion next season instead. Culpepper is close to finalizing a contract with the Sacramento Mountain Lions, a UFL team. My guess is the faux mountain lion jacket, is now in a garage sale box.
- Washington receiver Santana Moss is officially the first NFL player linked to Dr. Anthony Galea. Galea is the doctor who has been accused of providing HGH to professional athletes. This just goes to show that HGH doesn’t actually make every player better. Sorry Santana, but I had to go there.
