Floyd Landis the Snitch

Cyclist Floyd Landis, who was at one time best known for winning the Tour de France, has FINALLY admitted to using performance enhancing drugs.  Landis, who won cycling’s holy grail in 2006, has since been stripped of his title, due to abnormal testosterone readings in his urine sample.  After these results were published, Landis vehemently denied the charges, spending several years and thousands of dollars to defend his name, in hopes of reclaiming his Tour de France title.

Floyd finally tossed in the white towel today, calling up several media sources and coming clean (ironically) about his performance enhancing drug use.  By his own admission, Landis gave detailed reports to the media, outlining his extensive use of several banned substances.  His guilty conscience must have finally caught up with him (or his bank account is finally drained).

What irritates me about this story, is Landis using this admission and the spotlight he has once again cast upon himself, to try to out other cyclists whom he claims also used similar banned substances.  Among these “outed” bikers names, is Lance Armstrong.  I have no affiliations or bias for one cyclist over the next, as I don’t make it a habit to watch bike races, but something just doesn’t sit right with me in this case.

Lets clear this all up Floyd.  You took PED’s for an extended period of time, spent four years lying to your fans and supporters about said drug use, and now I’m supposed to believe that Lance Armstrong also is guilty of such crimes based solely on your word?  For all I know, Lance could’ve beefed himself up illegally, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s not cheating until you’re caught.  If you’re gonna man up and admit to wrong doing, don’t immediately try to shift focus off of yourself by name-dropping like a tattling toddler.
