Steve Yzerman’s ultimate goal after hoisting Cups with the Wings was to run his own NHL team, similar to the way he led Canada to a Gold Medal. Unfortunately, the Red Wings already have one of the best GM’s in the game in Ken Holland. In order to achieve his goal now, Yzerman would have to leave Detroit. That’s what he has done today, as he’s accepted the job to be Tampa Bay’s general manager.
Respect goes out to the Red Wings for hanging on to Kenny, the guy who built all these Stanley Cup champions and contenders, year in and year out, but it’s a damn travesty they had to let go of the city’s all-time Captain. Hopefully, one day, when Kenny Holland’s midas touch runs out, maybe Steve Yzerman can return to the city where he became a legend. Until then, best of luck to Stevie Y and we hope to see the Lightning in the Cup Finals here soon.
