The U.S.’s 23-man roster for this summer’s World Cup was released earlier today. The list is as follows, with my ideas for who the starters will be listed first:
GK: Tim Howard, Brad Guzan, Marcus Hahnemann
D: Carlos Bocanegra, Jonathan Bornstein, Jay DeMerit, Oguchi Onyewu, Jonathan Spector, Clarence Goodson, Steve Cherundolo
M: Michael Bradley, Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey, Ricardo Clark, DaMarcus Beasley, Maurice Edu, Benny Feilhaber, Stuart Holden, Jose Torres
F: Jozy Altidore, Robbie Findley, Edson Buddle, Herculez Gomez
Of all the names listed, I was surprised to see Sacha Kljestan and Brian Ching missing. In Kljestan’s case, coach Bob Bradley likely sees that Kljestan isn’t exactly the same creative, free-flowing player that he is when he’s on the field for Chivas USA. As for Ching, Bradley has chosen to go much younger up front with Altidore, Buddle, Findley, and Gomez.
Regardless, I feel like 2010 could be a good year for the US team. Bob Bradley has had a full four years to build a roster full of young, talented players that should be able to stop the terrorists and give us a bon summer.
