NFL Round-up: Cambell a Lion Again; White Faces Suspension; Crayton Needs a Tissue; Follett on ESPN

The three day holiday weekend is officially over, and I’m officially dragging ass this morning.  Apologies to those D4L writers who have the misfortune of being my facebook friend, as you were all subjected to pool pictures of me courtesy of my lovely uncle.  Back to the grind of the work week, which just might go by a little quicker if you waste some precious never-ending work time reading the NFL’s latest news, which I’ve so kindly compiled.

  • Sticking with the Memorial Day theme, the Lions have welcomed back former Army linebacker Caleb Campbell.  Campbell was selected in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL draft by the Lions.  After promising Caleb he could suit up in the NFL, the Army decided he still owed them some time, and reneged on their word.  Hard to fathom a governmental unit going back on their word right?  Now that Campbell has officially finished serving his time (which we’re all grateful for here at D4L), he has rejoined the Lions, seeemingly making a smooth transition.  I always thought this guy got shafted in this whole ordeal, so it’d be nice to see him blossom into an impact player.  Football isn’t his only talent, as Campbell also tried out for the 2010 Olympic bobsled team.

  • Rob mentioned a potential Crabtree-esque holdout for Ndamukong Suh in his links this morning.  The blogs on NFL.com tell a bit of a different story, quoting Suh as saying he “definitely doesn’t want to hold out.”  This is one of the few times you’ll find me hoping that one of Rob’s links was incorrect.
  • After finding himself a new home in Seattle this off-season, LenDale White has already wore out his welcome.  According to numerous reports around the league, White is facing a four game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.  I guess LenDale was doing so well at kicking his fattening Patron addiction that he forgot to cut back on the illegal stuff.

  • In perhaps my favorite storyline of the day, the Cowboys wideout Patrick Crayton is demanding a release or trade from the team citing “betrayal” as the main reason for his unhappiness.  This all started when Dallas selected Dez Bryant in the first round of this years draft.  With Roy Williams and Bryant looking like locks as Romo’s 1-2 combo this season, Crayton will now be fighting Miles Austin for the third receiver position.  My advice to Crayton is simple, MAN UP.  Williams is wishy-washy at best, Austin simply had one breakout season, and Bryant needs to prove himself on the field before I buy into the hype surrounding him (especially since he sat a good portion of last season due to an NCAA rule infraction).  Make your mark in camp, PROVE you deserve a starting spot, and if they still bench you after that, then and only then will I stand for your whining.
  • Lions linebacker Zack Follett was featured on ESPN’s first take.  For more Follett news, humor and insight, check out his personal website which he updates regularly.
  • Finally, while scouring facebook this weekend, I came across the following photo.  If this doesn’t get you excited for the upcoming season, I’m not sure anything will.
