The Tigers used their 8th round pick of today’s MLB Draft on catcher Patrick Leyland, son of current manager Jim Leyland. Patrick joins fellow catcher Alex Avila as someone with a parent within the Tigers organization (Alex’s dad Al is the Tigers’ new Director of Player Development).
If Jim is still around if/when his son gets to the bigs, it could cause some awkward situations in the dugout. I always hated the douchebags that started coaching just so their kid (who was easily the worst player ever) would make the team.
