Slow sports day yesterday, unless you were hooked on the Italy-Paraguay game in the afternoon. Let’s hit the links.
- Good news for the U.S.: goalkeeper Tim Howard is expected to start on Friday against Slovenia. If he’s unable to play for some reason, the U.S. will really be in trouble.
- At Babcock’s Death Stare, Kyle has put together an all-in-one post of Red Wings happenings this offseason. If you’ve kept up on everything, this post will be old news to you; however if you missed something, this is the place to go to get caught up. The Breaking Bad references help spice things upnicely.
- Despite his blown call in Armando Galarraga’s perfect game, MLB players still think umpire Jim Joyce is the best in baseball. I don’t believe he got many “pity votes” for what happened, but how he handled the situation helps us see why he’s so highly regarded.
- Ball Don’t Lie has some info on the Nike Hyperdunk 2010 sneakers, the latest version of the shoe that Pistons trainer Arnie Kander banned in February after multiple Pistons suffered ankle injuries. We’ll see if they really are “new and improved” but don’t be surprised if Kander bans this version before the season even begins.
- Busted Coverage may have identified the cause of Robert Green’s mistake in last Saturday’s England-USA match, model Elizabeth Minett.
-
At Detroit Bad Boys, Packey had an awesome idea to turn a sponsorship post into a discussion of some of the best 1-2 punches in Pistons history. I went with Billups/Hamilton, but there are plenty of other combos worth mentioning. Pride of Detroit is running with the same idea, though you’re hard-pressed to find a pair of Lions worth mentioning (other than Barry Sanders’ two legs).
Today’s random videos and highlight after the jump…

Puck Daddy posted the new trailer for EA Sports’ NHL ’11, and it looks like a must-buy at first glance.
ROB’S HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY
If this whole soccer thing doesn’t work out for Italy’s Danielle DeRossi, a career in Olympic diving certainly will. [via Guyism]
