Tigers Win And Move Into First, But Lose Zumaya’s Arm: Tigers 7, Twins 5

The Tigers put up a four-spot in the first inning off of Francisco Liriano to help pace ’em to a 7-5 win. The dub helped the Tigs slip past the Twins for first place in the AL Central Division for at least one night.

The real story, unfortunately, is the explosion of Joel Zumaya’s arm. After slinging a 98 MPH fastball in the 8th inning, Zumaya went to his knees in severe pain, clutching his throwing arm. While he was on the ground, you could see his hand shaking as trainer Kevin Rand simply patted him on the back. Zumaya was holding his arm up, near tears, as he was helped off the field. After the game, Zoom’s teammates said they heard a pop. That’s not good. He’ll have an MRI tomorrow.
