Fresh off the presses of the worldwide leader, ESPN is reporting that Paul Pierce and the Boston Celtics have agreed to a four year contract extension. The deal will reportedly net Pierce $61 million, ensuring him a healthy yearly paycheck until the ripe old age of 36. The forward had recently opted out of the final year of his contract, which would have paid him $21.5 million, but also would have left his future up in the air next summer.
I’ve gotta hand it to Paul, as he’s never given up on Boston even during the pallid seasons spent with Antoine Walker. He stuck it out through their rebuilding process, and now has a ring to show for it. He could have likely landed a bigger contract in his hometown, with the Clippers, but something tells me it would take more than a miraculous insidious wheelchair ride to impress the LA fans.
