Fresh off of a 3-6 road trip complete with ass-whoopings like this and this, the Tigers came home and took out their frustration on the Seattle Mariners. The Tigs won the first two games of the homecoming series, but were unable to finish off the sweep today.
STARTING PITCHING FTW
Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander both had dominant pitching performances against the M’s. In the longest outing of his career, Max went 8 innings and gave up 1 run on 3 hits. He had 7 K’s to just 2 walks in Friday’s 7-1 Tigers win. JV took the ball last night, going 7 innings in a 6-1 win. JV also only gave up 1 run, this time on 7 hits. He had 10 K’s to just 1 walk in his 10th win of the year. This is the 5th straight season Verlander has won at least 10 games.
BRENNAN BOESCH IS AWESOME, AND EVEN MY GRANDMA KNOWS IT
Brennan Boesch proved the doubters wrong again by going a combined 7-for-12 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored in the 3-game series. Boesch is hitting .345 this year, with an on-base percentage of .390 and a slugging percentage of .605. This puts his OPS (on base + slugging) at a robust .995 for the season. For comparison, only one baseball player had an OPS over 1.000 last year, and he’s not even human.
Hopefully the Tigers can continue their home-cooked winning ways against the Orioles and Twins before the All-Star break.
