Pistons GM Joe Dumars interviewed with the New Jersey Nets last weekend for their open GM position. To say that the previous sentence was a surprised to Pistons fans on Monday would be a severe understatement. While Dumars is a champion both on the court and in the front office, not many people were considering him among the big fish for any open GM positions. Dumars denied the rumor initially, then later released a statement through the Pistons.
“In response to today’s media reports regarding the New Jersey Nets, I can say that I do not have any interest in a basketball operations position with the Nets. My priority is to continue leading the Pistons’ basketball operations efforts and putting together a team that is ready to compete and get back on track next season.”
While I believe that Dumars currently has little interest in the job, sometimes a guy with the connections that Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov has can change your mind very quickly.
