Mario had his rally hat on today. Did you? [h/t Alli at Bless You Boys for the screenshot]
The Tigers weren’t able to cap off their late-inning rally, losing 6-4 to the White Sox in 11 innings. Ryan Raburn hit a 3-run homer in the 9th inning to tie the game at 4. No, that wasn’t a joke. It actually happened. Jose Valverde gave up 2 runs in the 11th inning, his second inning of work, to take the loss.
TYLER’S BUYING LOTTERY TICKETS
This tweet came right before Raburn’s game-tying home run in the 9th inning.
Yeah, that’s just creepy dude. We gotta go to Vegas or something.
TRIPLE CROWN WATCH
Cabrera’s Triple Crown hopes are fading, as Josh Hamilton and Jose Bautista continue to pull away with their leads in batting average and home runs, respectively. Hamilton is hitting .357 now, a number that’s even more impressive when you consider his average was just .281 at the end of May. Bautista now has 33 home runs on the year, 7 ahead of Cabrera’s 26.
LOOKS AT THE ROOKS
Austin Jackson had a rough day, going 0-for-4 with 2 strikeouts. He did have two walks though.
Will Rhymes was 1-for-3 before Raburn pinch-hit for him in the 7th inning.
Brennan Boesch was 1-for-2. He almost had an RBI single in the 1st, but a good defensive play by Chicago 2B Gordon Beckham kept the ball in the infield, holding Rhymes at third.
The Tigers are 9 games back now. They let a huge opportunity pass them by in this series, but there’s still plenty of time to get back into the hunt.
