This weekend’s series with the Los Angeles Anaheim Los Angeles (seriously, which one is it?) Angels didn’t look good going into today’s game. The Angels had won the first two games while holding the Tigers’ offense to 3 total runs. Starting pitcher Rick Porcello didn’t pitch well in his last start (or most of this year, for that matter). The Angels were starting Trevor Bell, a guy that was recalled from the minor leagues just over a week ago — exactly the type of pitcher the Tigers tend to struggle against.
Somehow, someway, the Tigers got it done today. The offense brought the noise, eventually giving Porcello enough runs to work with for the win.
THANKS FOR HELPING, NOW GO AWAY
Will Rhymes was 3-for-4 today with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Naturally, he was rewarded for this performance with a demotion to AAA Toledo while Jeff Frazier continues to waste a perfectly good uniform on the bench.
Of course, Guillen will hit the DL again in another three weeks anyway. Don’t get too comfortable down there Will.
LOOKS AT THE ROOKS
Will Rhymes took Brennan Boesch’s spot as the rookie who gets mentioned earlier in the recap.
Boesch, on the other hand, wasn’t able to build off his big night on Friday. He was 0-for-4 with 2 strikeouts and a perfect impersonation of Ryan Raburn playing right field in the 6th inning.
Austin Jackson was 1-for-1 in a late inning substitution role. He drove in a run with his single.
Here are the box scores for Friday and Saturday, if you’re into re-living awful memories and all that.
