Get ready George Blaha, you might have to start plugging Little Caesars soon. Mike Ilitch, owner of the Red Wings, Tigers and aforementioned pizza chain, continued his movement to take over the world (or at least Detroit) by throwing his name into the ring of potential buyers for the Pistons.
“When I read in the paper there was the chance that this great sports town could lose one of its professional sports franchises, I just didn’t see how we could let that happen. The Pistons, just like the Red Wings, Tigers and the Lions, have a rich and storied tradition in this community and they’ve brought pride to fans and our community…I really want to see the Pistons remain the Detroit Pistons…So, today, we formally notified the Detroit Pistons that we have interest in purchasing the team. This is a required first-step and we look forward to the opportunity to move forward in the process.”
I’m excited to see that Mr. I wants to keep the Pistons in Detroit, but I’m worried about what this could do to the Tigers payroll. Still, I wouldn’t mind seeing this guy at the Palace in the next year or two.
Mr. Ilitch, if you want to throw 7+ figures at Detroit4lyfe we’re all ears. You’re more than welcome to have a piece of this pie too.
