After a not-so-wild Saturday that saw all three Big Ten title contenders take care of bidness, the conference’s automatic BCS bid came down to a not-so-climactic revealing of the latest BCS standings. Wisconsin is siting at #5, Ohio State is #6 and Michigan State is #8.
Even if we see a massive collapse at the top of the BCS, Wisconsin will be headed to the Rose Bowl; Ohio State will likely receive an at-large bid over MSU based on their ability to sell out their ticket allotment (apparently inbreds travel to bowl games, who knew?). Since the BCS doesn’t allow three representatives from one conference, MSU will probably be headed to Florida to play in the Capital One Bowl on New Years Day.
I could debate the merits of a playoff or plus-one system over the BCS all day long, but a 5,000 word montage will only kill any motivation I have to study tonight, and you won’t fucking read it anyway. Instead, let’s take a look at the SEC teams MSU might match up against in Orlando after the jump.
LSU: The Cardiac Kitties will likely also be victims of the “two teams per conference only” shenanigans that are sending MSU to this bowl, making it the ideal matchup of BCS-haterz worldwide. The downside? Les Miles is batshit insane and I’m not sure how much of that nonsense Mark Dantonio’s heart will be able to take.
South Carolina: COEDS COEDS COEDS COEDS COEDS
Alabama: Nick Saban vs. his former team? Actually, that already happened. However, Spartan fans haven’t forgotten that Saban left them for greener pastures to avoid the Y2K disaster. Does anyone outside of East Lansing care? Not really, but it’s something for Sportscenter to talk about between Brett Favre dick pics and DISASTER IN MIAMI!!!!1!! stories.
Arkansas: The only way this happens is if South Carolina upsets Auburn in the SEC Championship game next week. Unless Auburn is totally embarrassed and Cam Newton is ruled ineligible, they will still get a BCS bid. Michigan fans might enjoy watching what could have been, as former QB Ryan Mallett will probably put up big numbers against the Sparties. The question is whether MSU’s offense will be able to keep up.
