One game does not make a comeback, but something about last night’s 4-3 Red Wings victory over the Sharks gives off a different feeling than last year. Maybe it’s the fact that the Wings took San Jose’s best shot, especially after going up 3-0 early in the 1st period, and still came away with the win. Maybe it’s the fact that Nick Lidstrom now has a higher batting average than Magglio Ordonez.
Or maybe it’s the fact that the Wings FINALLY got a bounce to go their way in this series, when the puck caromed off of Antti Niemi’s mask to Patrick Eaves, who passed over to a wide open Darren Helm for the game-winner.
It’s still not a comeback yet, but don’t be surprised if the Wings come out with a new swagger tomorrow night. Like we saw last year, a big Game 4 win means nothing if you can’t take care of business afterward. Unlike last year, though, this wasn’t a “burn the tape and move on” moment for San Jose. This was the Wings finding a way to win, getting the monkey from Games 1-3 off of their back.
Will the Wings send the series back to Joe Louis Arena with a Game 5 win tomorrow? We won’t figure out for another 24+ hours, so in the meantime, leave your thoughts in the comments.
