A word of advice for MLB pitchers (especially Jered Weaver): if you’re going to groove a belt-high fastball down the middle of the plate, don’t bitch when the guy that just hit it 400+ feet admires his handiwork.
Jered Weaver was flat-out butthurt when Carlos Guillen, 2B-turned-OG, took him deep and celebrated with a well-timed bat flip in the 7th inning of today’s 3-2 win against the Los Angeles California Disney Anaheim Angels. As you see above, Weaver’s next pitch was aimed at Alex Avila’s dome, resulting in Weaver getting tossed.
Not to be lost in all of this is Justin Verlander’s Cy Young-winning (yup) performance on the mound. Verlander was still sitting on a no-hitter in the 8th inning after Weaver’s temper tantrum subsided. A bush league bunt attempt by Erick Aybar and horrible misplay by Don Kelly allowed a run to score before Maicer Izturis singled in a run. Not surprisingly afterward, Verlander started piping 101 mph fastballs past Torii Hunter for the 3rd out of the inning.
