For the fourth straight season, Little Brother had his way with Big Bro. The Michigan State Power Ranger-Spartans beat Michigan 28-14 in a game that realistically should not have been that close. MSU bailed out the Wolverines multiple times with stupid, drive-saving penalties and Michigan was still unable to capitalize. Honestly, I’m amazed that Michigan came up with 250 yards of offense. If there are two things we learned yesterday, they are (a) Michigan State’s defense is legit, and (b) both teams should burn those uniforms. [photo c/o Midnight Maize]
Of course, what everyone is really talking about (including me, SEO y’all) is the supposed “dirty” plays from multiple MSU defenders. There is a highly-biased video here (seriously, who the fuck uploads the video to Facebook and not Youtube?) of all the moments in question. Of all those, I’m mostly concerned with the one where William Gholston (#2, Power Rangers) twists Denard Robinson’s face mask after jumping on the dogpile of tacklers. Here’s normal person video:
Yes, the facemask twist is dirty. It was flagged, and rightly so. The swing at Taylor Lewan? Pure retaliation. Did he deserve a flag? Yes, but that’s it. An ejection? Maybe. A suspension? Do you really think the NCAA is going to suspend that after what they let Ohio State get away with? Not a chance.
All this talk of “I’d rather lose with class than win like that” talk from Michigan fans is total bullshit (and this is coming from a Michigan grad). The fact of the matter is that a well-rested MSU team pounded a weary Michigan team that is in serious need of their upcoming bye week. If Michigan fans can take solace in anything, it’s that no first year head coach has beaten Michigan State since Bennie Oosterbaan’s 1948 national championship squad.
That, or they can always drop the “wait until basketball season” line they’ve heard so often over the past two decades.
