Derek Jeter — Kalamazoo, Michigan man — played his final game at Yankee Stadium on Thursday night. In a story-book ending, he knocked in the game-winning run in the bottom of the 9th inning after first-year Yankees closer David Robertson blew a three-run lead in the top half.
Hate on the Jeter farewell tour all you want, but it was incredible.

Neat scene in Tigers clubhouse: players fixated on TV and Jeter, like kids in awe. Respect. Kinship. Their own fantasy. Just a great scene.

If you are in your mid-to-late 20s, early 30s, and you played baseball growing up, you grew up watching and admiring Derek Jeter. I wore No. 2 because of Derek Jeter. I mimicked his on-deck swings. The apex of his career was at the height of mine. If you’re hating on Derek Jeter’s farewell tour, there’s a pretty good chance you just don’t get it. You might be a nerd. He’s certainly cool, man. He’s a Michigan man.
