The United Center in Chicago, Illinois will host UFC On FOX 16 on Saturday night, July 25, where the main event will be an anticipated fight between T.J. Dillashaw and Renan Barao for the Bantamweight Title. The Bantamweight class, of course, is comprised of fighters performing at 155 pounds and under.
Dillashaw defeated Barao in the featured fight of UFC 173 back in May 2014 when he pulled off one of the biggest upsets in MMA and UFC history by TKO in the fifth round. Dillashaw was supposed to defend his recently-won title against Barao in late-August, but Barao sustained injuries during training. Dillashaw’s victory against Joe Soto, the fighter who subbed in for Barao, was his first and only title defense. Dillashaw and Barao had a fight date in April that was also pushed back due to Dillashaw sporting a broken rib after a training session. After two delays, the rematch is finally ready to take place at the United Center.
Fans of the sport can head to Hipmunk.com for cheap airline tickets to Chicago to see Dillashaw’s first major title defense. Along with many undercard fights to provide entertainment all night long, enjoy the city of Chicago for the weekend by reserving hotels in Chicago through Hipmunk starting from $69. It’s sure to be a card worth making the trek for.
Meanwhile, UFC Fight Night tickets at the United Center have an average price of $152.12 on the secondary market, with a get-in price of $37, according to TiqIQ.com.
There are 12 scheduled bouts for UFC On FOX 16, including the aforementioned main event title match. The undercard bouts include Jessica Eye vs. Miesha Tate, Takanori Gomi vs. Joe Lauzon, Daron Cruickshank vs. James Krause, Tom Lawlor vs. Gian Villante, Kenny Robertson vs. Ben Saunders, Bryan Caraway vs. Eddie Wineland, Jessamyn Duke vs. Elizabeth Phillips, Edson Barboza vs. Paul Felder, Danny Castillo vs. Jim Miller, Andrew Holbrook vs. Ramsey Nijem and finally, Zak Cummings vs. Dominique Steele.
Because the event is in his hometown, former WWE superstar-turned-UFC fighter (who is referred to by his former WWE stage name, CM Punk), Phil Brooks has been making the media rounds as to when he will make his heavily anticipated UFC debut. Unfortunately, Punk will probably not compete until 2016, as he’s still been training before embarking on his newfound career.
