Thanks to the sort of combination of things coinciding that Clevelander’s were not used to before this June, the Indians don’t have to play baseball tonight against the Tigers AND have home field advantage in the ALDS against Boston. They needed to win their last three games, for Boston to lose their last two against Toronto and for Detroit to lose their last two against Atlanta and somehow, all that happened.
Now, the Tribe will ready for Thursday’s game one against Boston in Cleveland and hopefully a whole lot more. Currently, the upcoming schedule in the American League Division Series looks like this for the Indians:
ALDS | Day | Date | Venue | Red Sox SP | Indians SP | TV |
Game 1 | Thursday | Oct 06 | Progressive Field | Rick Porcello | Trevor Bauer | TBS |
Game 2 | Friday | Oct 07 | Progressive Field | David Price | Corey Kluber | TBS |
Game 3 | Sunday | Oct 09 | Fenway Park | TBA | Josh Tomlin | TBS |
Game 4 | Monday | Oct 10 | Fenway Park | TBA | Probably Bauer | TBS |
Game 5 | Wednesday | Oct 12 | Progressive Field | TBA | Probably Kluber | TBS |
As you can see, the Red Sox are having as much of a rotation problem as the Indians and as of yet don’t know who they will throw after their big two. For the Tribe, health reasons as much anything else forced them to start Bauer game one, but Cy Young candidate Kluber will go in game two and would be able to come back for game five on regular rest should it be necessary. Start times have yet to be officially released and all games will be played nationally on TBS.
Not to say they will, but should the Indians proceed beyond the first round, they would face either the Rangers or the winner of the AL Wild Card Tuesday, either the Blue Jays or Orioles. Against the Rangers, Texas would have home field, but against either Wild Card team the Indians would retain the advantage of playing the majority of their games in Cleveland. This is the schedule planned for the ALCS:
ALCS | Day | Date | Venue | TV |
Game 1 | Friday | Oct 14 | High Seed | TBS |
Game 2 | Saturday | Oct 15 | High Seed | TBS |
Game 3 | Monday | Oct 17 | Low Seed | TBS |
Game 4 | Tuesday | Oct 18 | Low Seed | TBS |
Game 5 | Wednesday | Oct 19 | Low Seed | TBS |
Game 6 | Friday | Oct 21 | High Seed | TBS |
Game 7 | Saturday | Oct 22 | High Seed | TBS |
In the World Series, whoever is lucky and talented enough to make it, the American League will have home field advantage thanks to Corey Kluber‘s win over the National League in the All-Star game. Unlike the first two series, all the World Series games will be on Fox (luckily none are scheduled for a Thursday so they don’t have to compete with Pitch). The following will be the schedule for the Fall Classic:
ALCS | Day | Date | Venue | TV |
Game 1 | Tuesday | Oct 25 | AL Champion | FOX |
Game 2 | Wednesday | Oct 26 | AL Champion | FOX |
Game 3 | Friday | Oct 28 | NL Champion | FOX |
Game 4 | Saturday | Oct 29 | NL Champion | FOX |
Game 5 | Sunday | Oct 30 | NL Champion | FOX |
Game 6 | Tuesday | Nov 01 | AL Champion | FOX |
Game 7 | Wednesday | Nov 02 | AL Champion | FOX |
Much was made when the schedule was originally released as the first game of the World Series aligns with the Cavaliers home opener against the Knicks on October 25th. Should the Indians make it that far, both teams would be playing at home in what could be the biggest single day in Cleveland sports history. Luckily, the Cavs will start at 5 PM and should be done by the time the Series starts at the normal time around 8 PM Eastern. As for the Indians, we will just have to wait and see.
