The UFC will cap off 2016 with two pay-per-views in December, and at (or near) the top of those cards will be two big rematches.  UFC 206 goes down at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on December 10th, and it will have at least one title fight on the slate.  Daniel Cormier announced on UFC Tonight last night that he will defend his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship in Hogtown against top contender Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson.

With Jon Jones’s place in the sport still up in the air (he is temporarily suspended due to a drug test failure), Cormier-Rumble 2 is the only fight that makes sense in the 205-pound division.  Rumble has only lost once at light heavyweight, and that was to Cormier at UFC 187 in May 2015.  Other than the loss to DC, Rumble has been absolutely detonating all comers.  Whether Cormier-Johnson will headline UFC 206 is unknown at this time, as hope is still being held out for Georges St-Pierre to make his return to the sport at this event (he promises a big announcement next week, so we’ll see).

Meanwhile, one weight class up, former heavyweight champs Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum will reportedly hook up once again, this time at UFC 207 on December 30th in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.  While this fight isn’t official yet, it is expected to be made so very soon.  Werdum famously took the heavyweight strap off of Velasquez at UFC 188 in June 2015.
