In his weekly chat with readers, Jim Kleinpeter, beat writer for the Times-Picayune in New Orleans, compares this year’s LSU team favorably to the one that won a championship in 2007:
I can tell you, Mike, in 2007 before the season no one knew how Matt Flynn would handle being the fulltime starter and he was great. I don’t think that team had the hype this one has because of that reason. Other teams are rebuilding, including Alabama, and LSU has a senior QB. Of course, that’s the problem, too. Jordan Jefferson could be what prevents LSU from winning it all. Actually, he omnly has to have a mediocre to above average season because LSU has enough talent everywhere else to win it all. I think defense is actually the biggest issue. Replacing Nevis and Sheppard will tell the tale.
