This is how rare a talent Devon Blackmon is: he lettered as a high school freshman. He played in the 2011 Under-Armour All-American game, and against the best high school players in the country on national TV he caught a 58-yard touchdown pass, from Brett Hundley of UCLA. Devon has never met a list he didn’t make: 35th on the Rivals 100, 23rd on on the ESPN 150, 32nd in the nation on 247Sports. If he had gone in the studio and cut an album he’d probably make the Top 40 on the Billboard Chart.
A natural-born wide receiver, with elusive 4.4 speed and a long, rangy body, he started at quarterback in high school his sophomore and junior years, simply because he was the best athlete on the field. As a sophomore he passed for 1,207 yards and 13 TDs, while rushing 125 times for 714 yards and six touchdowns. The next year he was first team all-league. His senior year, dividing his time between receiver and tailback, he was Offensive MVP.
Blackmon oozes talent and confidence, with an infectious, outgoing personality. He tweeted a storm to Duck fans during his recruitment, flashing a wide, happy smile wherever he went. He has his own website, already brand conscious. He’s charismatic and talkative, a character, with a little bit of Cliff Harris swagger in him. Blackmon seems to love the limelight and the perks of being a star, but understands the work and effort it takes to attain them. Above all, like most of the Ducks, he wants to win, and that’s a big part of why he came here. He told John Lund on 750 AM The Game, “I just want to come in and fit in, help the team win anyway I can.” Already he is a master of his cliches, but Blackmon also has a heart for people. “I don’t like nobody to not be having a good time around me,” he said. He wants to major in sports marketing and communications, but jokes, “I really want to be a teacher; they take so many days off…”
