Sean Day, the Rangers third round pick from the 2016 draft was dealt from the Mississauga Steelheads to the Windsor Spitfires Tuesday night in a OHL blockbuster move. As you may know, Day was granted exceptional status to play in the OHL as a 15 year old, just the fourth player to ever be given that honor behind some guys named McDavid, Ekblad and Tavares.
Spitfires GM Warren Rychel told sportsnet.ca that Day will “strengthen what is already a pretty good defensive group. He’ll have the opportunity to compete for a Mastercard Memorial Cup while he looks to earn himself a contract with the Rangers. I think our coaching staff can help him reach new highs in his game.”
Day, since being returned to the OHL by the Rangers had three goals and two assists in five games with the Steelheads. With the move now to Windsor, he’ll have some big games on tap in 2017 with the Spitfires owning an automatic bid into the Memorial Cup, Canada’s biggest junior hockey tournament, by virtue of being the host city.
