Ducks dispatch Oregon State to win North Division, host first PAC-12 Championship Game

Darron Thomas draws fans’ ire with every overthrow, but in Oregon’s last three games, he’s completed 65% of his passes with eight tds and no interceptions. The offense sputtered at times today but hit their number with 49 points, manhandling the Beavers with 669 total yards even after shutting down the offense for most of the fourth quarter.

Walk-on Ayele Ford capped the Oregon scoring with an 8-yard touchdown run, he became the sixth different Duck to score on the day.

De’Anthony Thomas had 5 carries for 82 yards, 8 pass receptions for 75 yards, and 2 kick returns for 40, 197 all-purpose on the day to go along with an 8-yard catch for a touchdown. He now has 1907 all-purpose yards and 16 touchdowns as a true freshman.

LaMichael James appear to injure his right elbow playing late into the third quarter with a 28-point lead, but the ice pack came off after a few minutes and he didn’t appear to be in any discomfort.

Oregon’s defense dominated the game through three quarters, with the Beavers striking for two late touchdowns and the bulk of their passing yards against the twos and threes. The Ducks succeeded in shutting down the Beavers’ woeful running game, 21 carries for 27 yards. They sacked Mannion six times and intercepted him twice, recovering a fumble on one of the sacks.

Oregon State’s Jovan Stevenson rambled 59 yards with a 2nd quarter crossing pattern to tie the game at 7-7, but the Ducks scored the next 35 points. The Beavers didn’t score again until 6:55 left in the fourth quarter, 42-14, punting eight times for the game. 150 of Mannion’s 299 passing yards came in the final period, with the Ducks up 42-7.

Oregon wasn’t sharp in winning this game, but they wore the Beavers down with superior talent and speed, flashing too many weapons for the 3-9 Beavers.

Now have five days of recovery and practice before hosting UCLA Friday at 5 p.m., with the opportunity to earn a trip to the Rose Bowl to face the winner of Wisconsin at Michigan State.
