Remember Marvin Johnson? A hard-hitting special teams player and nickleback, Johnson played for the Ducks from 2007-2010. He made a big interception in the win over Arizona that set them up for the Rose Bowl in 2009. He had 26 tackles and a fumble recovery as a senior, including two tackles in the National Championship Game against Auburn.
Johnson’s trying to catch on in The League, and he has a highlight tape of his Oregon years. John Neal’s pupils have had a lot of success at the next level, and Johnson, with his willingness to stick his nose in there and versatility, might be a good candidate for a roster spot somewhere next season. Several of the guys who played ahead of him have gone on to become NFL stars.
Johnson is a hard worker. He won the Wilson Award as Oregon’s most outstanding special teams player in 2009, and was one of the leaders in the secondary in the weight room, with a 319 pound power clean and a 365 lb. bench press. NFL scouts who missed out on Pat Chung, Jairus Byrd and T.J. Ward ought to take another look at MJ, a solid Duck who played his role.
