Oregon recruiting: new verbal commit Stetzon Bair could become a giant problem for PAC-12 offenses

He has the most kickass football name since Bronko Nagurski. You’d expect Stetzon Bair to manhandle offensive linemen like steers, chasing down ball carriers like strays in the mesquite, all the time exuding the confident, manly fragrance of victory. The legend writes itself. From a tiny town in Idaho near the Montana border, southeast of the Panhandle, he stands 6-9, 265 with his boots off, a former Mormon missionary from Iowa Western Community College, with four years to play three.

The fact that he’s the younger brother of a Duck legend just makes it even better.

Golden locks and the two Bairs: it’s been a fairy tale three seasons at Oregon with three straight conference titles, and the next chapter could be even richer if Stetzon Bair develops into the kind of NFL level talent that Brandon proved himself to be.

In his video Bair shows agility and a good motor. He’ll probably have to use the redshirt year to gain weight and strength, but at 21, having already gained 30 pounds in the year since coming home from the mission, he has the frame to be a mammoth presence inside, or at defensive end in the three-down linemen sets.

He uses his long arms well and reads the play, pursuing laterally. In a couple of clips he gets his arms up and disrupts the passing lanes effectively, and you’ll see him chase a slant pass or a running back far downfield, displaying great range and desire.

Like many young defensive linemen he tends to get upright too quickly, but he keeps jc offensive linemen away from his pads very well, and utilizes a nice spin move. He fights off blocks and gets into the flow of the play, a smart player with good instincts. Jerry Azzinaro and Jim Radcliffe could make this guy a beast, particularly with his obvious work ethic and good pedigree.
