If the recruiting fairy godmother came to your house in a cloud of sparkly chalk line dust and offered you three wishes, you should ask for Lorenzo Carter with your first wish.
Won’t be working for peanuts: Lorenzo Carter is the most ferociously talented defensive lineman in the country. Even grabbing him by the neck won’t stop him from getting to the quarterback, or the upright pad in one-on-one drills (rivals.com photo).
Carter is a 6-5, 235 outside linebacker/defensive end from Norcross High School in Gwinett County, Georgia. This summer he ran a 40-yard dash in 4.54. He’s a basketball power forward and a 5-star football recruit. Last season he swooped past opposing offensive lines for 136 tackles and 18 sacks, 45 tackles for loss.
At The Opening, the elite testing and 7-on-7 competition held on the Nike Campus in July, Carter recorded a vertical leap of 39.7 inches. That’s tremendous explosion for a 6-5 defensive lineman.

He’s insanely talented and quick. At camps and clinics he beats anyone coaches and scouts put across from him. Humble, congenial and driven, he led his high school team to a 15-0 record and the Georgia State 6A Championship. With over 30 scholarship offers, including most of the SEC, Ohio State, Notre Dame, the Ducks and every big-name school with a brain, he’s the number one defensive end prospect in the nation, a top ten recruit overall.
Alabama, the Florida Gators, and Georgia are huge favorites for his services, but the Ducks made his top 12. So you’re saying there’s a chance. Asked about the recruiting process, he told Zac Ellis of si.com, “I’m enjoying it. But I’m not letting the pressure be too much for me. I’m just trying to have fun and keep my parents involved.”
Lorenzo Carter and players like him are the reason the 68 million jigowatt Football Performance Center was built. He’s agile, powerful, motivated and a tremendous leader, the fiercest edge rusher in high school football since Julius Peppers and DeMarcus Ware.
If anybody has a soul worth selling, now would be a good time.
